Our Beauty Editor’s first impressions of this new scent

What is Chloé Atelier des Fleurs Immortelle Eau de Parfum?

Part of the Chloé Atelier des Fleurs collection, this season’s standout scent bottles the natural perfume of the immortelle flower, found along coastal paths of the Mediterranean.

Perfumer Caroline Dumur longed to capture the aroma of fresh greenery, melded with sea spray – with warm, sunny notes, a salty accord, sparkling bergamot and lemon, and a creamy vanilla and tonka base. One spritz will transport you to sunnier climes.

  • Fragrance family: floral
  • Scent type: floral, ambery
  • Distinctive feature: warm, salty notes

What is the Chloé Atelier des Fleurs collection?

Chloé has collaborated with renowned perfumers to create the Atelier des Fleurs, an exclusive collection of fragrances celebrating the art of floral composition. Atelier des Fleurs allows you to create your own unique perfume by combining multiple scents – each worn in pairs or trios, or alone.

How it looks

No one creates beauty cabinet collectibles quite like Chloé – and their elegant Atelier des Fleurs line doesn’t disappoint. About that bottle: it’s topped with a textured ivory cap with gold accents, and 15% of the pleated glass is made from recycled materials while the box is 100% recycled and FSC-certified. My dressing table has never looked so good.

What’s in it?

A 100% natural-origin vegan perfume (made using organic immortelle sustainably grown in Serbia), Immortelle’s key notes include:

Top Bergamot essence, lemon essence, salty accord

Heart Immortelle absolute, jasmine absolute, tuberose absolute

Base Vanilla bean extraction, tonka absolute, sandalwood essence

What does it smell like?

First spray A surprisingly fresh burst of zesty citrus, sweet jasmine, tuberose and sea salt

On skin Warm, fresh and floral, with lingering bergamot and jasmine. Your skin, but drenched in sunshine

After three hours The scent trail is undeniably sensual – think sunkissed, salty, beach-baked skin

How to apply

For a long-lasting fragrance, liberally spray the fragrance on to the neck, décolleté and wrists. In warm weather, lightly mist on to your hairbrush and clothing as the fibres will grip on to scent better – either spritz the inside of your pockets (more subtle) or your entire outfit.

How should I wear it?

Immortelle can be worn on its own or combined with other perfumes from the Chloé Atelier des Fleurs collection. If you’re new to fragrance cocktailing, try a floral (Immortelle) as your base, layering on spicy, woody notes (I love Cedrus) for depth and/or a sweet citrus scent such as Hysope for a jolt of energy.

When should I wear it?

Floral scents are best suited to spring/summer, perfectly complementing colourful outfits and sunny outlooks, but subtle enough for 24/7 wear.

Me? I layer 1. Immortelle with 2. Hysope (a neroli sweet citrus) for joyful ‘big’ days (summer weddings, birthdays) and on those days, to soothe a busy mind.

And when I need extra oomph there’s 3. Cedrus. A brand bestseller, Cedrus brings a woody and tender elegance when played as a minor flower in the bouquet, or a sensual, warmer, ambery elegance when worn as the lead. A fan favourite to suit all seasons, Cedrus is perfect for powering up and promoting clear thinking – for work meetings and Mondays.

How Immortelle makes you feel

Perfume is personal but – honestly? Immortelle makes me feel invincible. Whether it’s the mood-manipulating, transportative powers of the tuberose and salt accord, or the cocooning, comforting jasmine and bergamot, it’s like a warm glug of spring/summer when you need it most.

Verdict

Immortelle can jolt you out of a mid-afternoon slump and transport you to the Mediterranean. Fans of the OG Chloé Eau de Parfum will L-O-V-E it. I love it. Sure, it’s hard to buy a scent you haven’t yet smelt, but you’ll never regret Chloé – and you won’t regret this. ★★★★★
